Cuckoo Walk

Explore a discovery trail showcasing the ancient capitelles restored by members of the Apromicav association, as well as a magnificent viewpoint overlooking the Sommières region.

The hike starts at Calvisson Plaisance. Follow the signs to Lavoir Florent, then continue to Mazet de Guiraud. Next, take Chemin Font de Coucou, followed by Ournèzes. From there, head towards La Queyrolle, Balcon de la Liquière, then return to La Queyrolle via Jalo. To complete the route, return to Calvisson via Ournèzes, Maupas, and Mazet de Guiraud.

Highlights not to be missed during your hike:

  • The ancient restored dry-stone capitelles and shelters
  • Font du Coucou, a natural spring with fresh water.
  • A breathtaking panoramic view over the Vaunage plain.
  • Clos de Farel, also known as Jalu

Please note: The old dry-stone huts, also known as capitelles, are traditional structures built mainly along the boundaries of farmland by modest farmers between the 16th and 19th centuries. As they cleared stones from their fields, they used them to build boundary walls and, in some cases, shelters for storing seeds and tools, housing draft animals, and protecting themselves.
