Start your adventure from the charming Camping Le Garanel, then continue your route towards Aigalade and the Moulin de Pattes. Next, head to Fontanieu, followed by the Saint Julien Chapel. To return to Sommières, simply pass by the Arena.
NOT TO BE MISSED:
- The Roman bridge, dating back to the 1st century, stands majestically above the Vidourle along the historic route linking Nîmes and Toulouse. Originally, the bridge had at least 21 arches. A monument of Gard rich in history
- The impressive remains of the medieval castle, built between the 13th and 18th centuries, located close to the Sommières campsite.
- The Belfry, a fortified tower that once served as the entrance gate to the town
- The banks of the Vidourle River and the lively events held there throughout the summer.
GOOD TO KNOW
During the Middle Ages, the streets of the old town were laid out in a clever grid pattern to help channel water during the frequent floods of the Vidourle. This ingenious design directed the floodwaters towards the market square. The homes around the square were built on the first floor above arcaded buildings, protecting them from flooding.
