Wine Tourism

Camping Le Garanel is fortunate to be located in the heart of the Languedoc Sommières AOC wine region, just a few kilometres from several wineries and tasting cellars. If you would like to combine a scenic walk with wine tasting, a special hiking route has even been created to delight both you and your taste buds!

Languedoc Sommières AOC Wine Region

This is the youngest and one of the smallest appellations in the Languedoc region. It is mainly dedicated to powerful red wines made from a blend of at least two grape varieties chosen from Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Carignan and Cinsault. These wines display a beautiful colour ranging from deep purple to dark garnet. Their bouquet is complex, often revealing dominant aromas of red fruits (cherry, strawberry, blackberry, plum, etc.), complemented by notes of Mediterranean scrubland (garrigue), spices, liquorice and vanilla. On the palate, they are rich and concentrated, with smooth, well-integrated tannins, offering remarkable roundness and body.

Other wine quality and origin labels can also be found throughout the Pays de Sommières, including AOC Languedoc and IGP Pays d’Oc.

Domaine Costes-Cirgues

Family-run winery producing organic wines with no added sulfites and organic olive oil. Just 2.5 km from the campsite.  Domaine Costes-Cirgues Domaine Costes-Cirgues will be delighted to welcome you for a guided tour of the estate and winery, followed by a wine tasting. The tasting cellar is open without an appointment for tastings from Monday to Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; on Saturdays by appointment only. Advance booking is required for the guided tour. The estate covers 60 hectares of vineyards, olive groves, forests, fields and Mediterranean scrubland (garrigue). Domaine Costes-Cirgues is made up of small plots where vineyards and olive trees grow side by side. The remarkable diversity of its soils—composed of slate, gravel, limestone, flint and marl—gives each plot its own unique character. A Mediterranean climate, gently sloping hillsides, the nearby garrigue, and plots bordered by traditional dry-stone walls all contribute to the distinctive character of the Costes-Cirgues wines and organic olive oil.
